“It was regrettable. That was kind of an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This is not the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
