Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
