Ten convicted of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced charges of circulating false claims regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.

The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A persistent unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.

Their complaint contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has often echoed these claims on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she taught at his high school.

The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
